Shoot The Dead - Lullaby

Brighton electro-rocker’s ‘Shoot The Dead’ needed a classy sleeve art for CDs and the digital-download of their third single ‘Lullaby’.

The cover I designed was inspired by the retro, 1950′s theme of the music video (embedded below). The band are given full focus on the sleeve with a photograph taken from a press shoot surrounding the single’s release. The cover adds a strong grain to the photo giving it a retro feel along with a bright pink hue. The bands logo and the name of the single are placed over the top in bold white.

Digital Progression, Vol. 2

Following on from 2010′s ‘Digital Progression’ compilation album on EVE Records, I was asked to compile the second part in the series and create the accompanying sleeve art for the sequel.

The second entry in the series featured music taken EVE’s single releases around the time of the album and upcoming tracks due out in the future.

For the sleeve art, I returned to the stark greens of earlier releases on EVE, alongside a collage of interlocking line drawings. I used Photoshop to create the backing and overlaying line collage. I was particularly attentive to not use any ‘pure blacks’ in this design as I had in the past, instead focusing on darker hues which create a much less jarring appearance on the eyes and at thumbnail level within iTunes and other digital retailers.

Trance With Intensity

‘Trance With Intensity’ was an experimental album project I worked on this summer which attempted to try something a little different. I approached Flux Delux with the suggestion to promote a product in the social space as well as through their usual channels.

To aid with the promotion of the compilation, I created a related Facebook group to encourage other music fans to post their favourite new music. The purpose of this was two-fold, not only would it get music fans talking about their favourite Trance artists within the confines of the ‘Trance With Intensity’ brand, it would also encourage artists themselves to get involved with the albums – providing Flux Delux with new music being submitted for this, and future compilation albums in the series.

The starkly coloured graphic intends to be tongue-in-cheek as well as incredibly noticeable from the thumbnail. I think that even in a very small thumbnail view, this cover tells you exactly what the product is, and what it contains.

As it stands, there are plans to work on another ‘Trance With Intensity’ compilation in 2013 but the first is out now on Flux Delux.
